Every year my bf's family has a huge Christmas Eve gathering at the VFW. It was a lot different from what I am used to in Washington since my family size there is small but it did feel like Christmas' in California minus the Filipino food. To my surprise what is always served at their annual party is White Castle! Yes, you heard me right, WHITE CASTLE! It's their tradition and I didn't mind at all. One thing that was familiar was that they played White Elephant. They had different rules than what I am used to but I sure got ganged up on. People kept stealing my gifts...it must of been a welcome to the family first timer thing. I did end up getting a nice clock by the end of the game. I did have a lot of fun. Not only did we play white elephant but we played card games and I tried to beat my bf in darts. I almost won too!
After the Christmas Eve party we had to do the annual Santa drop off. Every year my bf's family along with their old neighbors who now live 20 minutes have a very special tradition. It was our turn this year to drop santa off at their house. There has been years where santa ends up in crazy places outside the house like on the roof, on the mailbox and even hanging from something. You have to be sneaky about it too. We were like ninjas in the night. We laid him on a swing chair that could easily be seen from inside the house. It was so great to join in on this tradition.
Although I wasn't with my family for the holidays this year it was great to be with my love and his family. I can't wait until next year when he can come and see how Christmas is done at my home.
